HOW TO HANDLE LEAKS

Leaky Faucet

Drip, drip, drip. That’s the dreaded sound of your next repair. Leaks are a terrible inconvenience that can create a whole lot of mess. We’ve got you covered at Epic Plumbing with our advice on all things leaky.

Spotting a Leak

It’s that horrible drip, drip, dripping noise again, coming when you least expect it. While some leaks are quiet, others will make their presence known, making them easier to spot.

Those that are a bit more discreet show through wall discoloration, bubbling paint, or musty smells. Another sign could be a substantial change in your water pressure or your water bill.

Address any of these changes quickly to avoid further damage.

Most Common Leak Areas

If you suspect there is a hidden leak somewhere in your home, head straight to the potential sources.

  • Hot water heaters - especially 10-15-year-old units are prone to leaking.

  • Toilets - check for a puddle around the base.

  • Water pipes - often in the winter, water expands and adds pressure to the pipes.

  • Refrigerator - an improper seal could cause excess condensation

  • Showers and sinks - worn-out pipes or caulking can create the need for a major clean-up.

What to do with Leaks

Now that you’ve located your leak, assess the damage. Turn off your water supply and do your best to clean up the mess. Mop up standing water and gather your belongings to keep them from suffering water damage.
